Isaiah Ch 6 a new kind of teaching
Isaiah was well thought of in Jerusalem. Jewish writings and traditions say he was of Royal descent
Anyway he had access to the royal palace and to the King himself
Hezekiah really liked Isaiah he trusted in his judgements and acting on his prophecies
Chapter 1 starts with a vision from God. Isaiah loved God and he followed very closely to the requests of God. Reminding people of their sins and saying why they should repent
Chapter 2 is the prophecy given to him by God about the future, OUR FUTURE.
CHAPTER 3 – 4 – 5 FIND HIM OBEDIENT TO WHAT God wants to tell the nation.
Chapter 6 is his commission
Uzziah had died and Ahaz his son took over. Things went from bad to worse. We now find Isaiah in the temple. As faithful servant of God, and the state of the nation concerning him, he went to pray.
Remember he knew the end result as God had already shown him in his visions REPENT
FROM THE PREVIOUS CHAPTERS WE CAN SEE HOW DISCOURAGED HE WAS FEELING.
WHY DON’T PEOPLE LISTEN?
God rewards Isaiah for his faithfulness. His eyes were opened to reveal God in all his splendour and majesty. Plus His holiness
V 1 – 4 Isaiah describes what he sees, can you imagine what it would be like to be able to see this sight.
V 5 tells us the heart rending fear which he felt at seeing all this before him
NO ONE SEES GOD AND LIVES.
“WOE IS ME” God cannot stand the sight of sin
His confession
1 I AM A MAN OF UNCLEAN LIPS do our lips always tell the truth.
2 I dwell among sinners.
He feels unworthy of this sight as nobody is listening to anything he says, there has been no fruit from his testimonies None of us are worthy of God visiting our lives.
Those times when He blesses us IT IS BY HIS GRACE HE DOES IT.
V 6/7
HIS CONFESSION MEANT HE COULD BE CLEANSED AND SANCTIFIED. Set apart for future use
His cleansing, look it did not need an animal sacrifice
A picture of God’s love and grace. Just like today.. if we confess our sin God will forgive us our sins.
This is why we call it the Gospel of Isaiah, look out for these pointers to the future which he spoke of in chapter 2
COAL taken off the Altar of Incense which was always kept burning day and night.
It was also called the Altar of Blood Sacrifice
As he kneels there he listens to the conversation between God and the angels
V 8 God never forces anyone to do anything
WHO CAN GOD USE
The nation had turned its back on Him.
Isaiah speaks. Heart beating fast, he cuts into the conversation
HERE AM I SEND ME. A volunteer who knew the problems of the nation.
AND was prepared to go and make the ultimate sacrifice.
The nation would not listen he knew, and he knew there may be problems from the people
He was cleansed and sanctified, so was in the best position to do the Job
V 9 his real commission
In the past he had been faithful
Now he was found worthy of spreading the Gospel in 758 BC
In the next 60 chapters you will see what power of conviction he had as he continued to prophecy
The fearless prophet
That vision lifted him up out of his depression (what’s the use)
Now Strange words
Hear ye…………see ye
Jesus used the same words in Matt 13 11 – 23
As a believer you understand why your message does not always get across
The parable of the Sower
What Isaiah was about to say was beyond their understanding, but not beyond ours.
V 11/12
HOW LONG? UNTIL PUNISHMENT ENDS.
V 13 there will be a remnant of faithful people
