THE 3RD IN OUR ADVENT SERIES
Luke 2:11, 13–14. Advent 3
V 10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
V 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
V 12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
V 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
V 14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
The greatest sermon ever preached was delivered by angels on this historic night.
It has always been interesting to me that this message was delivered at night.
It wasn’t night because the sun had gone down.
It was night because the world was surrounded in spiritual and moral gloom.
People were driven by greed, intolerance and lust for power.
Religion had become a device for the rich in the exploitation of the poor. Men robbed and swindled and profiteered under the cloak of religion; they even fought wars in the name of religion.
In every arena of life, it was night when Jesus came.
Things haven’t changed.
Today, there seems to be a moral night that has settled over our world—sexual immorality, pleasure-mad people, lusting for money and power—the same as it was in the days when Jesus came 2,000 years ago.
It is in the darkest hour that Christ often comes.
He brings the joy, the thrill, the peace and the glory such as you have never known—when you and your loved ones give your lives to Him.
V 15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.
V 16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
V 17 And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.
V 18 And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds
Having heard they wanted to check things out
They saw the proof themselves
No debate they all went
We need to check out the things God has told us
They them became the first gospel preachers, telling every one, they had no fear of what people say.
They had seen the proof themselves with their own eyes
Just like the woman at the well, she was the first to be told that Jesus was the Messiah
The shepherds were outcasts, they could not worship in the temple or synagogue because of the smell of being with the sheep
God did not object,
So they had this privilege of being the first witnesses
to you in your darkest hour?
How has Jesus shown Himself
Reflect on this for Christmas.

V 7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
